Clairey's Canned Goods was a fruit cannery, established 1931, packing peaches, apricots, and pears for the ordinary grocery trade. In 1980 the Company ceased operations. This page is the notice it left behind.

In that year certain lots of the Company's canned fruit were found to contain a contaminant of fungal origin. The affected product could not be told apart from sound stock by sight or smell. The directors resolved upon a voluntary recall of all product bearing the Clairey's name, without exception, and wound up the business. The Company has not packed since.

The recall was never lifted. Any Clairey's canned fruit still in a household should not be opened and should not be eaten. It should not be put out with the household waste.

Recalled product is collected and taken away free of charge by the Company's carrier of record, Rendez-Move, by appointment. Enquiries about the recall, and any arrangement for collection, are handled by the carrier. Nothing need be returned by post, and there is no charge to the household.
